Thoughts on Not Being a Grateful Kid

By Roselyn Barrios

Hi everyone, I hope you are having a great year. We are finally in November and one of the most favorable holidays is coming up, Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is a fun holiday where family and friends get together and they have a big feast and it’s also a very enjoyable memory. It is also time for kids to start being thankful for their parents, what they have, and also they should be thankful to God. From my point of view, I see kids not being thankful and they want more of everything they get.

When I look at the world around me, I see two kinds of kids; kids who will do anything to be positive and have a thankful heart or kids whose parents give them everything but they’re not complete and always asking for more. Kids should be thankful for their parents because they do so much for us all. It’s not just what they give, it’s also what they do for us. When we are sick, some parents stay home instead of going to work, just so they can make sure we would get better, but kids don’t see that parents try to do what’s best for us. I should know because I don’t see my parents’ point-of-view sometimes, but I start listening to and understanding both sides of a disagreement I might have with my parents. For any parents or guardians reading, I want to thank you for all your hard work and dedication for your kids.

Instead of being happy about the stuff teens have, they use it for a while and get tired of it, so they ask for more. You all know that there are some kids in the street who have nothing, but some of them are happy because all they need is their family. Sometimes I feel like teens should take a look at the world and see how lucky they are to have what they have received. I want kids to understand that there are some things we don’t deserve, but yet people still treat us like spoiled kids, which we shouldn’t be feeling because there will be a time where our parents won’t be there and we will have to work for what we want. Our parents are one reason we are alive, but there is one more person inside of us who we should give our thanks to.

God is the reason we are on this planet. We may not see, as kids, why we are here, but we were put in this world for a reason. It could be to change the world or someone, but there is also a reason. I don’t know who gives thanks to God but if you don’t, please thank Him at least once a day. He deserves it because He loves us through hard or easy times.

I hope you all got something out of this message because I want to make a difference and see that something has changed in kids. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ and we will always be there for each other.
