Pullovers

Pullovers, cardigans, cashmere, wool blends, cable knit or patterned… who doesn’t love the feeling of putting on a warm, snuggly sweater? Wrapping one around your shoulders while taking the kids to school or slipping your arms through one while walking outside in the evenings. The chilly mornings and evenings reminds us that sweater weather is here!

As the weather changes and we take our sweaters out of storage or go purchase the newest trendy sweater with some fringe or unfinished elements, I can’t help but get that fuzzy feeling that fall brings. The daylight ends sooner, which in my home, means more candlelight, more snuggling under blankets while watching TV and loving the crispness in the air.

This season may also bring with it a feeling of melancholy. Feeling the loss of a loved one, life changes, or the hardship that the start of the holidays brings with that loss, at times, putting on your favorite sweater is almost like having a security blanket. We all have that ONE sweater that brings with it a certain sense of well-being.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (New King James Version) says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation…” Our Abba (“Father” or “Daddy” in Hebrew) is here to wrap His arms, His love, and His grace around us. It’s so much better than the feeling of cashmere! The comfort of God not only brings a peace to our lives but He brings courage and strength.

Warren Wiersbe’s commentary on this verse says, “Your Father is in complete control. You will find comfort in praying, in claiming the promises of the Word and in having a deeper fellowship with the Lord.”

This season, don’t forget to put on Jesus. We never have to store Him away! We can be reassured that just like our toasty, soft sweaters brings with it a sense of contentment and warmth, so does the Love of Jesus. May He be your shield, your refuge, and your comfort.
