How-To: Give 8 Affordable Gifts That Make a Big Impact
By Selma Komisky
To give is better than to receive. Sometimes during the holidays we can get so focused on our own little world, giving to our own friends and family, that we forget others in need. Paul the Apostle said in Acts 20:35 in the New International Version: “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” So why not go beyond your own inner circle and give? It doesn’t have to be expensive. Here are eight ways to do that under $10.
A $1 donation to this non-profit provides two gently used coats through their annual coat drives to someone who is in need and can’t afford one.
A $2 donation pays for an active military member who is overseas to have 60 minutes of talk time with their family and friends.
$5 buys a paintbrush for volunteers building homes for families lacking shelter at Habitat for Humanity.
$10 goes to buy a bed net for a family in Sub-Saharan Africa to help prevent malaria.
5. cancer.org (The American Cancer Society)
$10 helps support research for breast cancer or any type of cancer.
$7 provides a senior in need with a meal delivered to their home.
7. redcross.org (American Red Cross)
$10 helps survivors of natural disasters.
$10 will help the organization wherever there is need, such as sponsoring a child, buying nets to safeguard from malaria, planting food, or even helping to provide clean water.
