Decades of Vintage Beauty: Early 60s
By Selma Komisky
The Early Sixties brought the world a barrage of music. From Motown to the British Invasion, with the Beatles as the catalyst, music was changing. Many families would sit and watch the Ed Sullivan Show on TV in color for the first time. Dances were the craze with The Twist, Mashed Potatoes, Wahtusi and the Monkey. Young people tuned in and wanted to imitate dancers on American Bandstand and Shindig. John F. Kennedy was President and Jackie O became a fashion icon of style and grace. Fashion was fun with playful colors and new additions to the wardrobe like capri pants, sling-back flats, head bands and a-line dresses. Hair was big and bold with the beehive and flip.
