Finding the Silver Lining for the Holidays
By Selma Komisky
There is no doubt about it, the holidays are upon us and we will need to try to see the silver lining in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Let’s be honest, life happens. Someone lost their job. A family is waiting in the ER for their loved one. Someone received notice of divorce papers. Someone is weeping at the loss of _____________.
Sometimes, we don’t know how to see any good as it should be. What is the silver lining and how do we see it?
In the Bible, a guy named Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers, taken to Egypt, and later thrown into prison. How did Joseph see the good? He was known as a dreamer (Genesis 37:19). He dreamed of hopeful things to come and the Lord was with Joseph (Genesis 39:2; 21), even in prison.
God brought his dreams to pass with great blessings. Even Pharaoh saw the power of God in Joseph (Genesis 41:38)! It was God who raised up Joseph to become governor, used Joseph’s leadership to provide during a serious famine, and brought restoration to his broken family.
Jesus is the silver lining and the Lord did not let the troubles of Joseph thwart His good purposes and His promises. Joseph’s hope was in God.
God used Joseph’s hardship to reunite his family. God raised Joseph up from prison to the palace – A true rags to riches story.
My prayer is that you may see Jesus, our silver lining this Christmas and New Year whatever your circumstances may be.
Merry Christmas and may you have a blessed 2018.
