The Summer Self-Care Issue

By Selma Komisky

Self-care is detrimental to our whole well-being, yet how many of us on a regular basis actually take time out each day to value ourselves? It is proven that a well-cared for body can make you feel good about yourself.

According to MSN, “80 Percent of U.S. adults don’t exercise enough. The fact that three-quarters of American men and more than 60 percent of women are obese, or overweight, is not exactly news.” Many studies have reached the same conclusion. However, it doesn’t look like people are alarmed because they don’t seem to be doing much about it. This is why you need a fitness program that not only makes you feel comfortable, have fun, but also a place where you can find community and stay motivated to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

God also says to take time to meditate on things above and music helps us to focus and become relaxed and mellow. We can also use music to de-stress, alleviate anxiety, or get our minds refocused on God after a hard day. I certainly can’t help but relax when I sit back and read my Bible and listen to some good music. It sends good messages to my brain which in turn, makes me feel calm. Prayer is also the way we talk to God, release our cares as well as our dreams to him. Learning to trust in His timing also brings peace.

Spending quality time with family and friends is also very healthy, healing, and priceless. Whether it be a wedding or a day out with loved ones at the county fair, quality time matters. Our interactions with one another and communication is very beneficial. Just laughing together can release endorphins, tension, and the emotional demands of our day. Likewise, like-minded people are vital to provide a crew of people with can get real with our struggles with things like self-worth, body image, doubt, and insecurity.

In turn, reading God’s Word is vital to our spiritual growth and health. The more I fill my mind and heart with the Word of God, it infiltrates my whole being, my soul becomes renewed, and the result shines through to others as I’m filled with the Spirit and with joy! It also aligns our thinking with God’s perspective and worldview. Filling our minds with healthy godly literature, also gets our mind focused, cleaned up, and gives us the ability to prioritize what truly matters in life.

Healthy eating as well as the usage of clean products can also make our bodies feel amazing. The benefits of making good choices to eat well has tremendous results, giving us overall better health and energy. But we all also need encouragement and support, someone to root for us and be on our side. This is why words of hope are necessary.

When it comes to relationships, we also need guidance to keep our mental health on par. Having no boundaries and letting unhealthiness enter our lives can bring us down and hinder us from being our best self. This is why we need others who are going our direction to spot check us and keep running by our side.

That’s why we at Marked Ministry wanted to dedicate this summer issue in celebration of self-care this month! Overall, this is important because God says we are His creation, His masterpiece, His dwelling place as His temple. So let’s be good stewards! Also, be sure to check out some of these terrific articles that touch on an array of different subjects regarding self-care. And, remember, take some time out for you so you can love others well!

Blessings,
