Our Note to Guys: Declutter
By Sarah and Selma Komisky
QUESTION: What is one thing you would like to tell our guy readers to declutter from their lives?
“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.”
– Micah 6:8 (ESV)
This is our prayer for you.
SURVEY ANSWERS:
“Pride. It doesn’t allow them to hear from God.”
“Declutter the old lies you believed about yourself. Take a look at the before and after, and then celebrate your growth in Jesus!”
“The need to look physically strong and be a gym rat. I just want a guy who’s respectful, honest, and has integrity. I notice that before a toned body.”
“Wasted time on their phones.”
“Choosing to declutter by not allowing someone’s opinion of them to have value if it doesn’t line up with Christ’s opinion of them. If someone has put you down, wipe that away and replace it with what Christ says about you.”
“Guys should declutter relying on others to fit in…most [people] are easily influenced by peer pressure.”
“I would say be PRESENT, when you are with someone or others, and declutter time on your cell phone. I get it, we all have our phones with us at all times. But there’s nothing more annoying, distracting, and disrespectful to the other person if you are just on your phone. It’s not true you can listen, talk, and scroll at the same time.”
“I think guys can declutter the need to ‘be cool,’ and realize that they are cool by being who they are. There’s greater freedom to be found by being a good friend/teammate/brother than by being part of the ‘in crowd’ or being the ‘tough guy.’”
“Stop watching YouTube all the time.”
“Minimize. So many men fall into the way their parents collected THINGS! It will reduce stress and frees them from secret things from their past! It will also eliminate triggers or pain. Yes minimize discoveries from their present or future life partners.”
“It’s time to declutter your mind of the past, those things that keep you from moving forward in your life with Jesus! If it is sin or failures of the past or people and situations from your past trying to bring you back down, it’s time to declutter that. “…forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
“To not take work home with them. That they should learn how to spend family time and also rest time/time with God.” Phil 3:13-4 It’s time to run for the prize!”
“Pride, tradition, and introspective skepticism.”
