Prince of Peace
By Bethany
The Christmas season can be chaotic and stressful, am I right? So, what do we need in times of chaos? Peace.
Peace is something we all long for. I long for peace in times of trouble and in times of chaos. Isaiah 9:6 gives us a clear definition of Who our peace is, and where our everlasting peace comes from: “For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, PRINCE OF PEACE.”
I came up with this little connection a while back, and it is near and dear to my heart. It makes labeling Jesus as the “Prince of Peace” easier to understand (for me at least). When I hear this verse, I automatically think of princesses, and how in movies, princesses long for their prince charming. I can’t help but to think that we (speaking for girls here) are Jesus’ Princesses, and He is our “Prince of Peace” instead of prince charming. Finding a prince charming is great, can’t deny that. But no matter what, they will lack something. Maybe they won’t be a man genuinely after God’s own heart; maybe they don’t know what to say or do while you’re stressed and scared. I can tell you with full confidence that having a Prince of Peace, by far, exceeds having a prince charming. Why?
My Prince of Peace lacks nothing. He knows how to handle every situation that will ever pop up. He knows how to comfort, and He knows how to give peace to those who need it most. James 1:5-6 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask you must BELIEVE and not DOUBT, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” Although this verse is referring to wisdom, I believe that in times of chaos we can ask Jesus, our Prince of Peace, for peace that surpasses all understanding, and He will give it to us. BUT of course, there is an exception. There always is, right? This is that when we ask, we must fully believe, and we cannot doubt. I still can’t comprehend how generous Jesus is. He gives to us when we ask, and all we must do is believe. Crazy, right?
So, let me ask… during times of chaos, the holiday season, or just generally, what would you rather have? A faulty prince charming, or a perfect, loving Prince of Peace? I can say for me personally, I’d rather have someone bring me peace that I can’t even comprehend, before I turn to a prince charming that is far from perfect. I want someone who knows me better than any prince charming could. I want someone who doesn’t leave me. I want someone who gives me so much peace, that it’s overwhelming. Don’t you?
I don’t know who you are, or what you go through during the holiday season. Whether it be dealing with remembering a loved one who passed, or struggling financially with trying to buy gifts for your children, whatever it may be. Don’t search for your prince charming before you find your Prince of Peace, Who is Jesus. He was born to us, and He’s the best gift anyone could give. We need peace, overwhelming peace. We NEED our Prince of Peace in times of trouble, anxiety, stress, and all things chaos. He is the best Giver of peace, and the only Giver of peace that will last forever. So, ask Him. When you are so overwhelmed with the Christmas season, remember that Jesus was born to us to be our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and PRINCE OF PEACE. He came to be the One we could turn to.
Ladies reading this, you are a princess, but finding your prince charming is overrated. No need to wait on some faulty prince to come into your life to save you. Your REAL “Prince Charming (or Prince of Peace)” has been waiting on you forever, and has saved you from the worst punishment. Turn to your Prince of Peace and He will give you all you need. He IS all you need.
I am praying over you -whoever you are- this holiday season. When you have the Prince of Peace on your side, nothing will stand in your way.
