The Game Changer

By Victoria Martin

If I asked you straight up “what does God’s love mean to you?” How would you respond?

I was asked this exact question recently and I honestly found myself slightly stuck on how to answer it. Like, where do I even begin?!  After pondering on it for longer than maybe I should have, I came up with some lovely fluffy, good feeling words such as “wholeness, fulfilment, healing and transformation.” But shortly after those words had left my mouth, I felt kind of disappointed with my answer. My answer felt unjust, not because it wasn’t true but because it felt too ordinary, far too ordinary for such an extraordinary love! And that’s exactly it – it’s too way up there to even touch when it comes to fully explaining what His love means to me. It’s a perfect love that, with words, is intangible.

So, I’m going to give it another shot at answering a question that cannot be perfectly answered. “What does God’s love mean?” It means a perfect indescribable, undeniable, underservable, and unquestionable love that wants to love a very imperfect me. It means that we, as believers, can experience the love of an unrestricted almighty living God. A perfect God that pours out an unwavering love which is not based on our performance, our upbringing, our education, our physical looks, our job, or the people we associate with.  It’s an exclusive love that, although it doesn’t need you, it wants you. In fact, it died for you.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

God’s love means that once you’ve had a taster, you will never be the same again. Never. It is a very real experience from a very real God. If you know, you know right? It is the game changer.

“And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” – Ephesians 3:18-19

If you are yet to experience His indescribable perfect love then I encourage you today to fully surrender yourself to Him. Chase after Him the way you would chase after the love of your life! Make Jesus the love of your life. Here’s a simple yet powerful prayer to help get you started:

Heavenly Father, thank you for the unconditional love you have for me.  I fully open up my heart to you and receive your perfect love. Pour it out and let it overflow in me and through me. Help me to see myself as you see me. Lord, I pray that your Holy Spirit will enlighten the eyes of my heart and cause it to incline towards knowing you deeper and to experience your love in all its glory and fullness, in Jesus’ name I pray this. Amen.
