How To Reacquaint with God Coming Out of a Season of Impurity

By Brisa Aguirre

There may have been a time when you were living for Jesus. You were on fire for God. You went to church every Sunday. Read your Bible every day. You lived out your faith. You did everything you should have as a believer.

But something changed.

You stopped doing all those things a Christian is supposed to do. How did this happen? God took something away from you and you are angry at Him. You hung out with the wrong people and were led astray. You got hurt and questioned why God allowed it. Whatever the reason, you want nothing to do with the Bible, church, or God.

Instead of trusting God, you go through a season of rebellion. You begin to live an impure life. This continues until you hit rock bottom and it’s time to get out. It’s time to get right with God.

Who God Is and How He Makes Us Pure

“For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness.”

-1 Thessalonians 4:7

God is holy, good, and pure. He calls us to be holy (1 Peter 1:16). After all, we are made in His image. So, this is something that can be done. Even if you strayed away from Him. Even if you have been living an impure life.

How can one achieve being pure? By acquainting yourself with the LORD.

You become reacquainted with God when you spend time with Him. The more you spend time with Him, the more you become holy as He is.

Come to God as you are and let Him make you pure and blameless.

How To Reacquaint with God

You strayed away from the righteous path and now it’s time to come back. You may be feeling guilt, shame, and impure. This might make you hesitant to come back. Don’t be! Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Get acquainted with Him again.

Here is how you can reacquaint with God:

  1. Turn to Him
  2. Repent and confess your sins
  3. Pray
  4. Read Scripture (meditate on it)
  5. Abide in Him (talk to Him, seek Him, worship and praise Him)
  6. Return to church
  7. Let someone know your situation and let them pray with you

Ultimately, refamiliarize yourself with God.

Conclusion

If you are in a season of rebellion and living impure, come out of it. Become familiar with God again. Learn to feel His presence. Learn to hear His voice. Become reacquainted with Him again. Do not let your past hinder you from seeking purity. Obtain this through faith in Jesus.

Whatever you did, Jesus covers up those sins. Don’t be afraid to come back to Him. Like the story of the prodigal son, He will welcome you with open arms. Come as you are. He will make you pure.
