“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
– John 1:5 (NIV)
One time I was having a conversation with a little boy. This is how it went:
ME: Did you get your costume?
SEVEN-YEAR-OLD: Dressing up is bad. Halloween is bad.
ME: No, not for Halloween, like, for fall.
SEVEN-YEAR-OLD: No. [curious] Do you dress up?
ME: Yeah, I think I am going to be Alice from “Alice in Wonderland” this year. I dress up every year.
Seven-year-old sees a pumpkin decoration with a smiling face and covers his eyes.
ME: Why are you doing that?
SEVEN-YEAR-OLD: It’s bad.
ME: No, it’s food, like something to eat. Like pumpkin pie.
SEVEN-YEAR-OLD: [smiles] I like pumpkin pie.
Like this little boy, many of us have fallen into the pit of fear. We focus on the bad instead of seeing the good and we let it divide us instead of unify us.
Marked Ministry wants to encourage this unity. Let’s see the good in life. Let’s stand for what’s right and certainly, let’s not compromise our beliefs. Let’s not see everything through the “bad” lens, either. If God came for us to have life, then let’s not limit ourselves to having no fun at all.
So before you place everything into the “bad” category, stop and see the good. Marked Ministry wants to do this in our October Issue. In fact, we want to shine the light of Jesus Christ (and have fun doing it!). So, while our articles will reflect our desire to honor God with our lives and choices, they will also reflect our God-given desire to enjoy the season.
Be enlightened. Be encouraged. Be freed to enjoy your October and celebrate all the good things God has given – like pumpkin pie! And overall, be a light in the dark.
