A Note From the Editor: January, 2017

Change is a mixed bag. Some of us love it and others of us hate it. And when it comes to 2016, many of us have the same sentiments. There is the nostalgia of good memories, the highlights, the “front page” if you like of your life. And, if you’re like me, you want to camp out there at times because it’s so wonderful. But then there are some other things you might want to forget, the scenarios that wouldn’t make it as a feature story of your life if it was up to you. You know, job loss, illness, breakups, heartache, struggles, addictions, embarrassing moments, arguments, etc. These are the stories we sometimes would like to edit out, especially when we are in the thick of it. Yep, that’s what happens in our little corner of the world, but it also happens to us as a whole.
Take a look at the news and it seems people are a little over 2016. Let’s be real, we’ve went through a lot and many are having “mixed bag” emotions – either terribly happy to leave it behind or hopelessly sad to see it go. Yes, there are definitely those mixed emotions stirring as we approach the new year, so where can we go from here? Well, let’s first take time to consider both emotions.
Here at Marked Ministry, we want to remember the highlights of 2016 and thank God for them. Yes, let’s even reflect on them and commemorate them but let’s not stay stuck in them (which is easy to do when what’s familiar is where we so often want to stay). And when it comes to those lowlights of 2016, we also want to say that it’s okay to reflect and grieve. I would even say it’s necessary. Taking time (even a season) to let God heal those areas of 2016 that hurt is vital. Yet, we don’t want you to stay there (which can also be so easy to do when you are in pain). Why? Because we believe in a God who is able to take the lowlights and make them highlights bringing beauty out of ashes.
So, In the midst of serious change as individuals, as human beings, as Americans, or whoever you may be, we at Marked Ministry want to be courageous enough to say our best days are not behind, but ahead of us. God is still on the move and we believe 2017 is an opportunity for a fresh work to be accomplished. It’s our time to step into what He is calling us to do to make a difference in this world. Jesus said it Himself when he said that He came to bring good news to the poor, healing to broken hearts, sight to the blind freedom to those who are bound, (Luke 4:18). So, that’s the footsteps we want to follow in here at Marked Ministry. There will be some changes, but we hope that you embrace them, even enjoy them, and may you join us on the journey.
Blessings for 2017,
