How-To: Spring DIY Spa Ideas

Spring has sprung! The world seems to come to life in the spring. After a season of rain, wildflowers begin blooming and baby animals make their way into the world. Spring is a time for freshness and new life.
Perhaps you’re not quite feeling so fresh at the moment. Maybe you’re nervously anticipating the first time you wear a dress with no leggings. Or maybe you’re ready to kick off your boots in exchange for sandals, but the thought of your chipped toenail polish stops you. I don’t know about you, but winter always leaves my skin dry.
Never fear. What you need, my friend, is a spa day! There’s no need to go out and spend loads of money when you can do it yourself! Trust me, there’s nothing like face masks and homemade sugar scrubs to make you feel like a new, fresh person. Round up a few girlfriends and treat yourselves to a refreshing night in.
Let’s take it from the top. Face masks look silly, but they leave your skin feeling oh so silky and clean. You can purchase some at Target for as little as two dollars each, or you can make your own concoction using ingredients that you probably have in your kitchen. For example, honey is an amazing condiment and in addition to having tons of nutritional benefits, it works miracles on your skin.
Mix 2 tablespoons of honey with 1 tablespoon of baking soda and massage this onto your face. Let it sit for about 15 to 20 minutes and then wash it off with warm water. Doesn’t that feel better?
While you wait for your face mask to dry, you can begin mixing up a sugar scrub. Sugar scrubs are super simple; they’re basically sugar and oil with a scent added in. Clean skin is comfortable skin, and you’ll smell spectacular. Plus, they look super pretty in a mason jar and make great gifts.
To make a this sweet scrub, gather 1 cup of brown sugar, ½ cup of either almond, olive, or coconut oil, ½ teaspoon of Vitamin E oil (optional), and 1 teaspoon of real vanilla extract. All you need do is stir the ingredients together and store it an airtight container such as a mason jar. To use, scrub it onto your skin and allow it to sit for 3 to 4 minutes and then rinse well.
Finally, don’t forget to take care of your nails! Spring means open toe sandals and it’s fun to see a row of brightly painted toes when you look down. Clip ‘em, file ’em, whatever it is you need to do. Have fun expressing your personality through your nail color.
Little spa tip: if you put on a movie while while painting your nails, you’ll be distracted and less likely to spoil all your hard work.
Simply putting on a fresh coat of paint will look divine, but if you feel creative, go for it! You could try different color combos or add polka dots with a pencil dipped in polish. You could add a coat of glitter or draw on designs with a nail pen. If you want to save money, you can try drawing designs with a sharpie. Many stores carry nail stickers for less than a dollar which can be a fun addition.
At the end of your spa session, hopefully you will feel refreshed. It’s good to get rid of the old self and feel brand new. Taking care of your body is important because it is your temple. Just as purity of heart is important, purity of the physical body is essential. If you don’t feel your best, chances are that you won’t act like your best.
Shed your leggings with confidence and twirl in your sundress. Wiggle your newly painted toes with delight as you take one step after another into spring.
