Scripture Study: Our Heavenly Father
By Sarah Komisky
All of us have an earthly dad that was a great example, or a poor example, or maybe one who was in between. Because our experience with our earthly dad shapes our experience with our heavenly dad, some of us can have a hard time with the concept of God as a loving heavenly father. The idea, in all honesty, seems foreign and the idea of celebration even seems painful. That is why this Father’s Day, I wanted to take time to remind you or introduce you to who your Heavenly Father really is. May the truth of His character reshape your thoughts and ignite praise for who He is.
“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.”
– 2 Corinthians 1:3
“Father to the fatherless, defender of widows—this is God, whose dwelling is holy.”
– Psalm 68:5
“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.”
– Ephesians 1:3
“And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.”
– Mark 1:11
“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation.”
– 1 Peter 1:3
“But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.”
– John 1:12-13
“Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?”
– Matthew 6:26
“And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to Me,” Says the Lord Almighty.”
– 2 Corinthians 6:18
“See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.”
– 1 John 3:1
“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, ‘Abba, Father.’ For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs.”
– Romans 8:14-17
