Who Needs a President When There’s Already a King?
By McKenzi Matsick
Donald Trump. Joe Biden. Kamala Harris. Mike Pence.
When we log onto social media, search topics on Google, or turn the TV to the news, the very first headlines and titles we most likely see have something to do with the names above.
I believe we can all agree, that at least in the United States, our society has become divided. Voices have been amplified, and unrest has broken out in various cities across the nation, due to such matters like the 2020 election. Our government is a broken entity, and because of the sinful nature of man, such things like elections and voting are always corrupt in their own way.
You may ask, “How can we find hope in a season full of hate, confusion, and division?” I am glad you asked, because I have something to share that I pray will encourage you during these times.
In Isaiah 9:6-7, it says, “For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over His kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.”
What these two verses are saying is this: An ultimate, perfect ruler and King was born to this Earth, some two thousand years ago. He was born into the world to one day reign, and bring about peace to the Earth. Not only would He bring peace, but He would also rule over His kingdom with justice and righteousness. This has never been fully implied before by any other leader.
My friend, this King and hope that we have for all eternity is Jesus Christ.
He paid all our sinful debt by being nailed to the cross; lying in the grave for three days and nights, and rising again to declare victory over the stronghold that sin has on so many all across the world. Christ ascended to Heaven, and will return to this Earth to bring about a just kingdom.
No leader, politician, rich man, or ruler can ever bring about the peace and hope that Jesus can, one day very soon.
Instead of placing our trust in man that will fail us over and over (no matter who he/she is), let’s get back to the basics of laying every fear, worry, and care down at the feet of Jesus this season. Let’s use our voice to lift up our concerns to Him, rather than shouting at our brothers or sisters in hatred and frustration.
There is peace that you can find within all the uncertainty of this season. His name is Jesus.
