A Fresh Start for a Healthy Year

By Susan Park

“This is your fresh start.” These words are on my wall calendar. Every time I read these words; I get inspired. Many people, like myself, want to have a fresh start with their health for the new year. Here are some practical tips that goes back to the basics for your spiritual, mental, and physical health for 2021.

For your spiritual health, you can nurture your relationship with God by spending quality time with Him. Is there a time in your day that you can spend uninterrupted time with Him? You can pray, read Scripture, and journal what is on your heart lately. Reading Christian books is another way to grow in your relationship with God. Also, cultivating friendships with other brothers and sisters in Christ is a wonderful way to bless and be blessed by others.

For your physical health, there are healthy habits you can incorporate in your life. Here are a few examples:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking water throughout the day.
  • Move every day. Walking is a simple exercise you can do.
  • Eat well by incorporating fruits and veggies in your meals.
  • Get enough sleep.

For your mental health, are you taking time for yourself to destress from a busy day? Carving out intentional time to connect with God and your loved ones is a wonderful way to destress and take care of your mental health. Self-care habits such as hobbies and journaling are a great way to express yourself in a creative way. Also, putting boundaries for yourself on screen time and social media is another mental health tip. If you need professional help, seeing a counselor is a good way to receive the help you need.

I want to encourage you with his verse.

“Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.”

– 3 John 1:2 (NLT)

Here’s to a fresh start and healthy 2021 for you!
