Expecting a Beyoncé from your Fiancé
By Maxine O’Loane
C’mon ladies, single or not we all know Beyoncé’s iconic chorus “If you like it then you should’ve put a ring on it” and we cannot forget Marilyn Monroe’s classic “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” You know where I’m going with this right? Yes! I’m talking about wedding/engagement rings. Songs are written about them, tabloids have been filled with pictures of them, and plenty of jaws have dropped because of the mere size of them.
One in particular belongs on the finger of who else but, Queen Bee herself, Beyoncé. If the fact that her Lorraine Schwartz 18 carrot solitaire diamond ring isn’t shocking enough, the cost is a whopping 5 million dollars. Did your jaw drop? Mine did too. I get it, what girl doesn’t spend a few moments daydreaming about her ideal proposal and ring. But, it’s important to remember that it is not the four C’s (Color, Clarity, Carrots) that matter, it’s the meaning behind it and the person who bought it that matters.
Think about it, that ring was carefully chosen just for you by a man who “loves you to the moon and back” (in the words of George Bailey). Recently the typical white diamond has been exchanged for a few alternative ring choices. No worries, just because it is not a diamond doesn’t mean it is going to look cheap or any less elegant. So, here’s just a few options for those who want to save a little extra for the wedding or who are searching for a more unique ring to fit their style.
If you’re more of a minimalist when it comes to jewelry then a band might be right up your alley. Whether it’s a daintily curved band, or a few stacked rings with intricately placed jewels, these might be a few rings you want to check out.
Make your engagement just a little brighter with a canary yellow diamond ring. And for my chocolate lovers out there, make your ring a little sweeter with a nice chocolate diamond. There are so many shades to choose from, so why settle for white when you can bring a little extra color to your life.
Now we’re getting to the fun part! Well, at least for me anyway. If you want to something more on the unique side I’d suggest a gemstone engagement ring. If you’re a turquoise kind of girl, they have rings for you. If you love the mysticism of the moon, try a beautifully decorated moon stone. Or if you’re a little more in touch with your “dark side” make a statement with some onyx bling.
The more the merrier, right? Why stress over deciding on a single diamond or stone when you can have both. The best part about having multiple jewels is they don’t have to be the same color. So, if you’re having trouble deciding between which one to get, why not get the best of both worlds and choose them both.
Now, for those who have more of an “adventurous side” tattoo rings have been getting a lot of attention recently. I mean, what says “til death do us part” more than having your band tattooed on your forever. Plus, I can guarantee you’ll never go through the heart wrenching pain of losing your wedding ring somewhere.
Remember, this ring is something you’re going to wear for the rest of your life so make sure it is as beautiful and unique as the woman wearing it.
